• Q: How do I know whether you are the best financial advisor for me?

We hope we are, although we’re not for everyone. Are you seeking Five-Touch Financial Care™ through one ideal relationship? Do our values align with yours? Do you agree that “aspirational” investments – such as hedge funds, private equity, and multiple managers scrabbling over slices of your money – are more likely to distract you than help you achieve your greatest financial goals? Will you relish delegating the tasks and sharing your complete financial situation with us? If so, we can’t wait to speak with you. If you are instead looking for ad hoc investment tips, we’re probably not for you.

  • Q: Do you have a minimum account size?

Minimum portfolio size is $400,000. If your current asset level does not meet our minimum requirements but you have unique circumstances you would like to discuss, please do not hesitate to give us a call.

  • Q: What if I don’t live in Knoxville?

While we are based in Knoxville, TN, we are well positioned to serve families, individuals and businesses across the United States with our financial life planning, Five-Touch Financial Care™, and 3(38) fiduciary retirement plan services.

  • Q: What can I expect from your client experience and how long does it take to get started?

During our first meeting, before any financial life planning takes place, we will get to know you, your situation, your values, your relationships, and your greatest aspirations – in your life, for your career and with your money. Next, we will walk you and your family through our structured financial life planning process for connecting your available assets with your highest aspirations.

During your first year as an Insight client, you can expect to meet with us about 5–6 times. We’ll gather information to create an individualized financial plan just for you, based on our deep understanding of your goals and priorities. We’ll deploy our Five-Point Financial Care™ services to integrate evidence-based investment with the rest of your financial interests (including cash management, risk management, tax planning, estate planning). For business owners, we also can blend in a retirement plan program, and help you balance your work/life financial interests.

  • Q: What do you mean by “evidence-based investing”?

At Insight, we implement an evidence-based investment strategy, guided by decades of objective, peer-reviewed financial research. As your advisor, we will help you ignore the market’s uncontrollable elements and maximize those that can be managed – such as reducing costs, managing investment risks through global diversification, and avoiding hyperactive trading generated by your own reactionary emotions.

  • Q: What do you mean when you describe yourself as a fee-only, independent Registered Investment Advisor firm?

We charge a transparent advisory fee based on a percentage of your assets being managed. Our fees start at 1%, and decrease as you reach various asset levels. We also can do hourly planning if that fits your situation best. We accept NO commissions. Because our clients are our sole source of compensation, we can best align our interests with yours.

We also are intentionally structured as an independent Registered Investment Advisor, which commits us to acting in a fiduciary capacity for you. In contrast, those compensated by commissions or playing dual employee/advisor roles often have two “clients” to serve: you, and the firms whose products earn them compensation.

  • Q: What other business affiliations have you established?

As your fee-only, fiduciary advisor, we receive NO compensation for recommending or working with one provider over another. However, throughout our decades in business, we have often turned to the following key alliances when their services complement our own and represent your highest financial interests:

    • Conry-Taylor & Co CPAs, P.C. (our affiliated CPA entity)
    • Buckingham Strategic Partners (a nationwide advisor community)
    • Dimensional Fund Advisors (fund manager)
    • Vanguard (fund manager)
    • TD Ameritrade (account custodian)
    • Kinder Institute of Financial Life Planning (financial life planner community)
    • The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA)
    • The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards (CFP Board)
